What I look at when something breaks
The visible symptom is rarely the whole story. A slow page might be a plugin, a database query, a third party script, or a server running out of room. So before changing anything, I work through the likely causes.
Security works the same way. Outdated plugins, abandoned themes, unauthorised plugin copies and bloated installs cause a large share of the problems I get called in for. Keeping an install lean is part of keeping it safe.
